Working together, the Southlake Library staff and Library Foundation of Southlake (LFOS), invited young readers to play Book Blizzard Bingo from Dec 2nd to January 9th, 2025. Readers from kindergarten through eighth grade who registered at the library received a colorful bingo card encouraging them to compete in a fun game as they discovered a flurry of new books.
Similar to the summer reading program and last year’s successful winter reading program, it was designed to keep students engaged in reading over the holiday break and during the long winter nights. Each new book read and each bingo earned tickets for prizes such as gift cards from The Toy Maven, 1956 Pizza, Talking Animals bookstore, and other local businesses. The most popular item was night vision goggles.
However, even competing against prizes such as the gift cards, Lego kits, spy walkie talkies, and lunch and department tours with Southlake Police and Fire Departments, 33 children submitted 521 entry slips for the privilege of serving as Librarian of the Day! Doesn’t that just warm your heart? It is a true testament to the staff, the leadership, and the community’s love of the Southlake Library. ~ Lauren Green
