Southlake public library is a champion

Think libraries are a thing of the past? Look at these numbers and decide for yourself.

  • In fiscal year 2022-23, the  Southlake Public Library had 112,123 visitors. That record-setting number is a whopping 19% increase over the prior fiscal year!
  • Southlake has a population of just under 31,000 people. The number of books checked out of the Southlake Library in its fiscal year which just ended was more than 355,000. Doing the math, the average number of books checked out was 11.5 for every man, woman and child in Southlake.
  • When you add digital downloads (electronic books, magazines and audio books), total circulation was just shy of 435,000, or 14 items checked out for every Southlake resident. Were you above or below average?
  • The amount of money that their library card holders saved in the past 12 months by borrowing items equated to more than $8.9 million.
  • The library budget itself is only about $1 million when the return on investment to residents is nearly $9 million.
